It was seven years ago today...

It was seven years ago today:

I woke up early. Excited. I was getting a new driver’s license photo. Under some bad advice I highlighted my nose with makeup in my previous picture. The goal- make it look smaller. The result – it looked bigger. A lot bigger. But today- I was  getting a new driver’s license picture and it was going to look awesome!

It was seven years ago today:

There was no traffic. I left early because I needed to get to the DPS office to get in line. I was prepared to wait for hours. I waited for 15 minutes. The line at the DPS office was non-existent. When does that ever happen? Never…   When I got home I laid down on the couch and closed my eyes thinking… I have a few spare hours I’ll take a nap.

It was seven years ago today:

I didn’t have a chance to fall asleep. The phone rang. And as the person on the other end talked- my heart stopped. My hands could barely hold the phone to my ear. It was mom. She stopped breathing. They transported her to the hospital. They put her on life support. She was unconscious. They didn’t expect her to recover. I had to go now.

It was seven years ago today:

I took the kids out of school. They had to say goodbye. I called: family, friends, the pastor of her church. I waited for everyone to have their time. Then, I signed the paper that would remove life support. I kissed her on the cheek. I held her hand. I prayed. And I told her goodbye for now. Then I watched as they removed the man-made life support from the body of my lifelong best friend.

It was seven years ago today:

  • I turned 38.

  • I took an amazing driver’s license photo.

  • I took my mom off life support.

It was seven years ago today that my world was forever changed…
